Melun (77)
Take a walk from the Bees Station in Melun, in the south of Seine-et-Marne. A true discovery, full of surprises!
Did you know that Melun's destiny was decided during the Hundred Years' War? When the widow of King Charles VI rallied to the English cause, Melun fell into oblivion after this troubled period.
Since the sovereigns preferred Fontainebleau, we also don't know that it is in Melun that we can visit the National Gendarmerie Museum!
A few kilometers away, we find the village of Maincy to the east. At the bend of a small road, we come across the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte! Crowned with all its charm and beauty, it is the whimsical project of Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of King Louis XIV. It was in this magical place that Fouquet organized a party of incredible opulence in honor of the King. With Vatel at the helm, Molière and La Fontaine giving performances, these grandiose festivities would cause Fouquet's downfall.
Today, the Château is open to visitors and can be admired on several of our tours.
You can also choose to take a route through Thomery and stop at the Château de Rosa Bonheur, the most famous and expensive painter of the 19th century, before entering the 25,000 hectares of the Fontainebleau Forest.
Next, pass through Barbizon, where famous Impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, and writers such as Chateaubrillant and Proust stayed. You will finally enter the fascinating neighborhood of the true residence of the Kings, the House of Centuries (as a certain Napoleon I called it): the Château de Fontainebleau, which has just completed the restoration of its horseshoe staircase.
The Stations Bees Melun is located 600 meters from Melun train station, 300 meters from the Euro-Vélo (https://fr.eurovelo.com/) (track n°3 called Scandibérique) but also 700 meters from the historic heart of Melun.
The electric bike is an ideal ally for pedaling along remarkable routes where all your senses will be awakened by the diversity of the landscapes, between the Seine and the forest. Yet, we are 30 minutes from Paris by train line R departing from Gare de Lyon. As a couple or family, set off to discover these remarkable sites in the south of Seine-et-Marne.
Located on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, Station Bees Melun also offers Crash-Pads and other equipment dedicated to climbing.
